Part 3 of my IoT series is finally here, and it's like Christmas in more ways than one! I have decided to move to video for my updates for the series, and the first video entry is ready. We will be looking at the kit I purchased to build my IoT rig at home, and show you the parts you need to get started on yours if you are interested. Enjoy the video! As always, your comments and questions are welcome below or on twitter. [video] @CHarrold303 Is Building a Personal #IoT | @ThingsExpo #M2M #AI

About 6 months ago I had this "brilliant" idea that I would like to monitor the water level of my plants living on my balcony. The goal was to keep them healthy and happy (and producing vegetables for me in my urban garden). After looking for a commercial solution to aid me in this project, I discovered that there wasn't anything out there that would do what I need. The primary reason why nothing worked for me was that none of the products out there are capable of monitoring multiple plants at once, leaving me with the need to buy multiple units. The Fallacy of Big Data is that you have to have a lot of data for it to be relevant. The common catch phrase is: "More data = more insights... (more)

Building the Internet of Things | @ThingsExpo #IoT #IIoT #M2M #API #AI

It's been way too long, but the next in the series of IoT "Build-along-at-home" videos is done. In this edition I will show you the "Hello World" project for interacting with the IO ports on your Raspberry Pi. Please click here to watch the video and as always, comments and questions are appreciated and welcomed! Watch the video on YouTube here if you prefer! Also, it is in the video, but my GitHub library of code for all the projects we will be doing in the video series can be found here: Git Hub Repository If you are the type (like me) who just likes to figure stuff out on thei... The IoT for the Rest of Us: It's Alive | @ThingsExpo #AI #IoT #IIoT #M2M

Welcome back to our series on building out our own IoT projects and discovering the underlying tech and principals that make up the industrial internet and IoT.  In this video session we will assemble, boot, and configure our Raspberry Pi 3 and lay the foundation of all the IoT projects we will build. You can view the video on my YouTube Channel here. I wanted to add a couple of things I learned after recording, that didn't make it into this video but should have. After you get your Raspberry Pi running, the first thing you should do is open the terminal window, and execute the...
